 Introducing Lanuzas’ Bamboo Surfboards

               Bamboo surfboards that were made in Lanuza is now making a big hit in the surfing industry not just in the Philippines but is now known in the rest of the surfing world. Both local and foreign surfers have proven how durable this board is. Local manufarturer in Lanuza are now exporting some of their best bamboo surfboards in a made-to-order basis especially in the US and some surfers who came to Lanuza brought their boards back to their home country like Australia, New Zealand.

          Localfolks now  find other alternative source of income by providing raw materials to the local manufacturer. The idea of making this bamboo surfboards were first introduced by a foreign surfer who visited Lanuza few years ago.

As qouted in bamboosurfing.com;

         “One big advantage in using woven bamboo for surfboar manufacture is that it has positive bouyancy in the water (flotation) whereas the synthetic glass fibre is a dead weight with negative buoyancy. Bamboo produces a stronger more durable board without losing its flexibility. Bamboo is one of nature’s strongest materials after all.”

         ”The green surfboards of the future may come from new technologies and hi-tech advances of the chemical kind, but this guy’s already there. He’s been quietly perfecting bamboo surfboards for over a decade. He has a full-on factory in the Philippines with a team of shapers, weavers and glassers. If Bamboo is a magic plant, Richard Matthews is a magician.”
